Dr. Smedley is a board-certified ophthalmologist with a diverse educational and clinical background. He earned his undergraduate degree at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he also played collegiate ice hockey for the Weber State Wildcats. He received his medical degree from Michigan State University in 2014, where he was selected for the Leadership in Medicine for the Underserved program. Through this initiative, he dedicated two years to providing care and public health outreach to vulnerable populations across Flint, Michigan, and internationally in Huancayo, Peru. Dr. Smedley completed a surgical internship at Maricopa Medical Center (Creighton University affiliate) in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University, one of the highest-volume surgical training programs in the country. He served as Chief Resident during his final year. A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO), Dr. Smedley is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He specializes in both traditional and laser eye surgery and offers comprehensive medical and surgical care for a wide range of eye conditions, including cataracts, dry eye disease, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears, thyroid eye disease, and drooping eyelids. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is committed to providing clear, compassionate care to patients of all backgrounds. Personal Outside of medicine, Dr. Smedley enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. As a former college athlete, he remains active in the hockey community—playing, coaching, and cheering from the stands. The family also enjoys camping, fishing, and riding dirt bikes together.
